The medieval village is situated on an attractive hill (420 m above sea level) with a marvellous panorama on the mountains of the Bavarian Forest, the valley of the Bogenbach and the Danube plain.
Windberg is all over Bavaria valid as a classic example of successful protection of monuments and historic buildings and village renewal.
All around the Roman basilica from the 12th century (with attractive rococo equipment) and the monastery of the holy order of the Prämonstratenser other historical constructions form a group. A little bit outside the village there lies the pilgrimage church named Hl. Kreuz with hermitage.
